Saturday plays

Hello my loves!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! I know I am! I know I have not been on in the last couple of days, and I apologize. I have had a very busy end of the week/weekend. On Wednesday, I went to see Kevin's grandparents and give them the projects I was working on. Poppy LOVED his elephant! He wouldn't let anyone touch it. And Nana fell in love with her scarf, and demanded that I make her a headband. So during the entire visit I was hooking up a headband, and talking with Kev's Auntie June about how I am a Sagittarius, specifically a metal horse Sagittarius. She is so knowledgeable of astrological signs. We then had Double Decker tacos and watched American Idol. Have you seen that show?! I love watching the beginning where everyone is terrible. I know it is horrible, but we made fun of all the horrendous ones, an example being: "They sound like a cat is dying and puking up a rat at the same time". Isn't that lovely!

Then on Thursday, I had my first classes of the semester. My genetics analysis class sounds like a handful. The professor made it very clear that in order to pass this class with a C, we have to put in at least 10 hours of studying per week. That was wonderful to hear at 9:30 in the morning. A couple hours later I had my abnormal psychology class. This particular class is going to be my favorite. I already know! We were talking about the history of abnormal psychology (I hate history), and I was enjoying it like no other! 3 and a half hours of lecture, and I was in full focus! Yay! I also logged on to my online class and finished the homework for the week. Easy as Pie! Kev then surprised me with a dinner to Chili's (My favorite restaurant) and his sister and friend came over to play dead space 2. Have you seen this game?! It is the scariest game ever! Oh well, I got an order of 2 headbands out of it.

I had Friday off, so I went to dinner with Kevin at the Sushi Garden 2 right by our house. We had the most amazing sushi! I wasn't able to get a picture of it (we ate it too fast!) but my oh my was it good! We had a tofu soup, goyza aka "potstickers", a salad, and deep fried California roll with spicy and orange sauce! The potstickers were out of this world as well as the sushi. I also have received many orders for a headbands, so I worked on those for a while as well as homework.

So here I am today, sitting at home blogging :D Earlier today I went to a play with Kevin's sister staring as a Jester. It was called "Hello Goodbye Hansel and Gretel".

It was fantastic and adorable! Everyone did such a good job! I wanted to take pictures but I was told no flash photography. Oh well. I did manage to grab this photo from the facebook page!
All of the kids has so much fun and were yelling at the big bad wolf :) It was so cute!

I then came home and resumed my day with working on a new headband for a customer. Would you like to see it? I love the way it turned out :D
I think the bow looks just as cute as the flowers :)

Well I have 5 more headbands to make by Tuesday, and homework. So I must be off. I hope everyone is having a great day/night!

Lots of love

2:30 am posting

Hello my darlings!

It is 2:30 in the morning here in California. It is most definitely time for me to be sleeping, but I couldn't help but want to share what I have been working on the last couple of days. Remember the headbands I was making? Well I made 6 of them (3 of which I completed today). I am so excited to ship them tomorrow to the lovely new owner :D But before I send them off I wanted to share the loveliness of these headbands.

They are just so much fun! I love how each rosette has its own distinct personality :D I think my favorite rosette is the gray, but color wise I have to go with the pink. I would normally stay away from wearing pink, but this one is too darn cute to pass up!

Well I best be off to bed now. I am practically falling asleep as we speak!

Lots of love,

It's a Dr. Pepper kind of day

Hellooooooooooo :)

How is everyone doing this fine day? It is a second foggy day here. It was soo foggy last night that we couldn't even see 5 ft in front of us! At least it burned off some this morning so that Kev and I could brave the elements and get some shopping done :) After shopping for a few things, I am now back in my NikNak spot and ready to fuel my creative needs. But in order to do so I need to have a sip of Dr. Pepper :) (Dr. Pepper is my all time favorite drink). Yes, I may just be addicted to Dr. Pepper. But that is okay! It helps me ;)

In my last post I talked about how I was distracted by an elephant, and stopped working on the Queen Anne's Lace scarf. Well, yesterday I buckled down and finished it! It is just so beautiful and delicate looking! I love how the little motifs swirl around and make a twirly swirly scarf! Soon after finishing the scarf, I was asked if I could make a thick style headband with a rosette in two different colors, but the only problem was I had no pattern, and no judgment of how thick she wanted the headband. See I was asked to make it thinner than the headbands she has now, and I was provided with a picture. So I found a pattern by celestial's creations: Crocheted Headband and hooked up this beauty!

I think it turned out pretty nice, and the rosette looks great! I had a strong urge to add more color to the headband, but I had to remind myself that the headband is not for me! So I just took a sip of my Dr. Pepper. After this headband, I have to make one more in white, and I might just make a third one for this lovely lady as a buy 2 get one free type of deal. And the third will be a surprise with colors I like! That way I get my can have even more fun :) Well I think it is time for me to check the mail (I have a few packages coming in today). Then I will attempt to work on my projects list and hopefully put a dent in it!

Have a great day everyone!!!!!

A small trip to Africa

Helloooooo :)

It is a nice foggy day here in California. Which means a nice day inside for me! I am still fighting this cold that has taken hold of my sinuses. I woke up today feeling better than I did yesterday, but still very congested and weak. I hope this is the end of it. However, because I have to stay home, I have been working like mad on a few of my projects! Yesterday I was working on a second Queen Anne's Lace scarf in a lavender color, when I was completely distracted by a stray thought. I wanted to make an elephant for Kevin's grandfather who just had surgery (He is in love with elephants). I found a free pattern from Lion Brand that looked so amazing! If you want to give it a try click here! So I pulled out some yarn and hooked up this little guy!

Isn't he just charming? I love the way he turned out. The pattern says to put some black eyes, but I didn't have any on hand, so I picked a pair of buttons out and placed them where I thought they looked the best. I also used a little bit of crazy glue for an extra hold. I think it turned out wonderful, and I got rid of some yarn I was never going to use!

I hope everyone is having a great day today. Have fun!

Cold days cold ways

Hello my loves!

I hope everyone is doing well this fine day. I am having a resting day today. I caught a fantastic cold with the works. I have a sore throat, congestion, and a small cough. Doesn't that sounds like fun. But to top it all off, I was not able to fall asleep last night until well into the early morning. I am exhausted. But that doesn't mean that I am going to let this get me down! oh no! Instead I plan on watching TV all day and spoiling myself with yarn love and peach tea. The only thing that could make this day better would be if I had my favorite TV shows on today. But unfortunately, my channel that I was so in love with has been taken over by Oprah. So I guess I will settle for Law and Order or anything else that looks interesting.

However, I can not wait for Wednesday of next week! I am going to get my first ever professional massage. Kevin and his sister were so kind to get me a gift card to receive a massage! It will be a wonderful relaxing day before I go back to school the next day. Well, I better get back to my yarn therapy. It is calling ;)

Have a wonderful day everyone!

New Yarn for me!

Hello my lovelies!

I have such fantastic news! I received an email from the college I am attending saying that I have been added to the Dean's list for the college of Human and Health Sciences for the Fall 2010 semester! I am so happy! This is the second time that I have been added to this list. I am very proud to get this email, because I worked sooo hard this last semester. On top of this I also got into another class today! It was the intercultural comm class :) And because I was such a good girl, Kevin told me that he would buy the yarn that I have been drooling over for a couple of weeks now. He also said I can buy $25 worth of the yarn! I was so happy!!!! So I bought two types: Wool of the Andes worsted yarn and Andean silk yarn. I can not wait for the shipment to
come! Finally something better than my 100% acrylic yarn.

I am currently working on a few different scarves that are turning out fantastic. I will post pictures when they are completed!

Have a great day!

What do you mean school starts next week?!

Hello my lovelies :)

I hope everyone is having a fantastic morning/afternoon/night! I know I am. It was so fantastic to be sleeping in so much over the last couple of days. For a while I was working non stop and going to school full time. I feel like I have been on vacation for the past couple of weeks and I adore it :) But that is going to be coming to an end soon :/ *blah*. I start school again on the 27th of this month. As much as I am going to regret saying this now, I am excited for the courses. It is the whole idea of hundreds of pages of reading that leads to *blah*. I am a double major in Communications and Psychology, so I am going to be in school FOREVER! It is never going to end! I think what I am looking forward to the most is how many interesting facts I am going to learn this semester :) I am taking an advanced genetic analysis class to full fill a upper division general course for biology/math. The rest is all me :D My comm classes are Communication in the classroom, Advanced interpersonal communication, and I am wait listed in two more (Intercultural communication and Gender communication). I hope I can get into one of the two I am wait listed for. Keep your fingers crossed ;) and extra crossed that it is Gender comm! I really want Gender comm mainly because it is fully online and I am wait listed number 2 out of 50 others! The other class that I am enrolled in is my Abnormal psychology course. This particular course is by far the one that I am looking forward too the most. It is my only psych class this semester. I sorta kinda overloaded myself with four psych classes last semester and only one comm class. Thus why I have so much comm this semester! Okay okay en
ough with the school talk! Since I have had soooo much time off lately, I have been working on making my spot more "NikNakish" as Kev says. It is coming along nicely I think :)

I found a fantastic pattern for how to make African flowers!
I have been working on these little beauties and putting them up on the wall as I go :) I think I need more. What do you think? I think so. Or something at least to go in that horrible white spot behind the chair. See I just got Kev to move the two guitars he had behind my chair today, and put them where the Christmas tree was (It was so bare there I couldn't stand it). But now I CAN'T stand how bare it is behind my chair! I think I am going to put my Yoga gear behind the chair. Once it arrives of course.

I have been wanting to get into yoga so much more lately and I have a mat, but it is old and not so relaxing any more. Soon after discovering how much I disliked the mat, I stopped. Plus I was in a tiny dorm room at the time. Since Christmas was so fantastic this year, I decided that the happy weight needed to come off! So I invested in some yoga blocks, a strap, a brand spankin new mat, and myyogaonline. I will let you guys know how this goes :) I hope that I will soon become a crochet dependent, yoga loving, Dr. Pepper drinking, sleep deprived student! *Only thing missing is the yoga*

So now that I have a million things coming up in my life, I have been searching the world of crochet for more and more inspiration. What I seem to be in love with are Granny squares that are put into pillow form. This will be my next mission. And since I have a limited amount of time before my adventure continues with school, I must start pronto! I want to have my spot all prepared for when school starts. That way when I get home from being in class for 6-8 hours a day, I can read in complete NikNak love :) Is there anything you think I should do to make my spot more lovely?

Much love to all :D

Nikkole

P.S. I just want to say Thank you for all the lovely comments and the new followers I have! You have no idea how excited I was to have my very first comment and follower of my blog. My heart smiled in such a beautiful way :D Thank you!

My first Mandala :)

Hello to all :D

I am so excited to show all of you my very first Mandala! It took a couple days of working on it before I finished it, but I am definitely hooked :D See over the last couple of hours, I have been working non stop on my creation and I can not WAIT to
start a new one :D It was fairly easy to sit and complete this project (mainly because Kevin was watching a movie called Mega Piranha).

I love the colors so much :D

I learned how to make this from Alice and Raymond
I am so inspired by her work!
Thank you so much!

Me time

Hello all :)

I hope everyone is having a good week this week! I know I am :D Yesterday was Kevin and I's date day. We spent the day with sushi, shopping, chili's restaurant, a movie, and coffee. It was wonderful and much needed! I bought a lipstick, which I am in love with, and I got my ear pierced! I was so nervous sitting in the chair. It hurt quite a bit actually and it is still very sore today. I love the location and the color of the earring. I wish the color would have transferred a little more in this photo. It looks much more teal in person. I am in love :)

I know that I have not posted anything new over the last couple of days. I have been working on a mandala that is turning out wonderful :D I promise to post a picture when I am done. I plan to put it on my chair :D I am still in the process of working on my spot, or as Kevin calls it "the NikNak spot". I have my mountains of yarn around me and my chair with a picture I drew in Art 1000 a couple of semesters ago. But I need more! More love from the NikNak. Would you like to see a couple of pictures from my Art 1000 class? Sure you do! :D

This one was a homework assignment where I was asked to draw water. I now have this above my chair. The rest were given away to my family. I have others that I could have put above my chair, but Kevin liked this one so much that we chose this one :)

The other ones that my family recieved were really interesting as well. This next one was the very first drawing I had done where we added tone to the drawings. I have others that I have
liked a little, but I think these two have best
memories for me in terms of my own sucess.
The other medium I got to use was ink. I don't have
a picture of the work I created but, it was by far my
favorite :D

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Love in bows :D

Hello to all who view my extremely small blog :)

I have decided that I am going to make a serious effort this year to learn something new and exciting. One of the things I have learned (and shown in previous posts) is bows :D

I began making the bows to make something other than scarves, and I just LOVE how cute they are turning out :) Recently I have made a pair of bows for some slippers I am making. They are freaking adorable, so I thought I might share my obsession!

I think it is the heart button that makes it so cute <3 Speaking of cuteness, this past week I have been visiting my parents house and my little doggies! I missed being around them so much! Our Jack Russell Mia is a wild child, but what's not to love about a sweet little monster who sleeps like this:

Irresistible :) Even if she manages to get on the counter and eat the butter, then proceed to rip apart a ball of my precious yarn ^.^

Thank you so much for reading!

My bow slippers :)

Thanks to Lisa at ohmygoodknits and Marta (whom I have previously mentioned) I have created myself a pair of slippers with my cute little bows! :D

bows :)

I made a bow tie this morning, and I love it! I got the pattern from Marta (http://creativeyarn.blogspot.com/2008/12/necktie-with-bow-free-pattern.html) and I am so excited to put these cute little ones to use :D Thank you Marta!

In other news, I have started working on a pair of Mary Jane Slippers. I loved the way they turned out, except I made it too big :(
Once I make a new one that actually fits my foot, I will post pictures! If you want to make a pair yourself, you can go to ohmygoodknits by lisa :) (Here is the link: http://goodknits.com/blog/mary-jane-slippers/)

Blankets for Winter

Starting in September, I started working on a blanket for a member of my family. It was a basic dc style blanket with 5 different colors. I also included the her greek letters of Delta Phi Gamma while incorporating all of her sorority colors. I just finished it tonight and I love the way it turned out!

The colors that were used (They did not show up as well as I would hope) were White, Black, Royal Purple, Grey, and Bright Pink. Using a 5.00mm hook and Simply soft Caron yarn for all the of the blanket, I only dc the whole blanket.

The letters were the most difficult part of the entire blanket. However, I think the letters look normal enough :] The size of the blanket it about 10ft in length and 5.5ft in width :)
